        Laurie Lears lives on a small farm in Pennsylvania with her husband, three dogs, and three cats. She teaches kindergarten and has two grown daughters and a granddaughter. She has written several books for children.

        Karen Ritz has a degree in children's literature from the University of Minnesota and teaches about visual language at the college and graduate level. She has illustrated over forty books. Karen lives and paints on the 30th floor in downtown Saint Paul, overlooking the Mississippi River. She loves to work with children on discovering not their first answer, but their best answer.
