Biographical or Historical Data
Edythe Medlin Tippett (1929-2012) was born in Zebulon, the daughter of Albert V. Medlin (1895-1942) and Mamie Lee Medlin (1899-1950). Edythe graduated from Wakelon High School in Zebulon in 1946, and received her baccalaureate degree from Wake Forest University in 1950. Edythe married Carsey Lee Tippett, another Zebulon native, on September 9, 1950. Throughout her life, Edythe served the Zebulon are in a number of professional and personal roles. Edythe served as a teacher at Bunn High School and Wakelon School, and then as Librarian for the Zebulon Public Library. In addition, she was a member of the Wake DAR Chapter, located in Zebulon, and served as the chairperson for the Zebulon Bicentennial Commission in 1976. Edythe was a founding member of the Little River Historical Society, for which she also served as president, and received a lifetime achievement award in 1998. In 1971 Edythe was asked by the Wake County Bicentennial Commission to write the History of Zebulon and the Vicinity as part of the celebrations for Wake Countys Bicentennial anniversary. Afterwards, Edythe continued researching the history of Zebulon, organizing and presenting programs for the library on Zebulon and the neighboring areas. After her retirement, Edythe served as a docent for the North Carolina Museum of Art. Edythe died on November 29 2012.
