Description
Originally produced at New York's New Playwrights Theatre in 1927, this African-American drama is set around 1880. All the characters in the play are identified as "negroes" of varying origin and most lines are written in dialect. At varying points, the play sheds light on issues of racial bias, racial identity, and African-American superstitions and folklore.
