Benja Lowe is a hoggee for a canalboat, working long hours walking the towpaths of the Delaware and Hudson Canal in the 1800s. He befriends Lundius, the deckhand and a former slave, and helps him smuggle runaway slaves to freedom on the Underground Railroad.
