The Richard Beverly Raney Webb collection consists primarily of original materials created by members of each family, newspaper clippings relating to the families and individuals, and genealogy research pertaining to each family. Each series contains original materials pertaining to each family or subject, as well as collected genealogy notes. The collection also contains numerous artifacts, owned by relatives of Webb. The records have been arranged into ten series organized by family name, with each series being further arranged into subseries based on materials type. Each series and subseries are arranged alphabetically. Each series contains original materials pertaining to each family or subject, as well as collected genealogy notes. The genealogy notes subseries consist of compiled notes, photocopies of original documents, and correspondence containing genealogy information. Some families are represented more heavily. The collection also contains numerous artifacts, owned by relatives of Webb. The collection ranges in date from 1847-2012, with the bulk of the original family materials ranging mostly from 1847-1909. Series have been divided into subseries of individual family members when there was a large amount of materials pertaining to the individual. The series are as follows: Baird contains clippings, correspondence, documents, ephemera, photographs, writings, and compiled genealogy research created by or related to members of the Baird family. Cowan contains correspondence, financial documents, and genealogy research related to the Cowan Family. Margaret Matilda Cowan subseries includes correspondence, which includes a large amount of materials from when Cowan attended St, Marys School in Raleigh, N.C., c. 1950s, published works, and reports from her time at St. Marys School. Cowper contains clippings, correspondence, documents, ephemera, photographs, and compiled genealogy research created by or related to members of the Cowper family. Denson contains materials and collected genealogy research relating to the Denson family. Subseries include Claudius Baker Denson and Katharine Whiting Denson. Claudius Baker Denson includes clippings, correspondence, documents, ephemera, financial records, letters of recommendations, newspapers, printed materials and photographs created by or concerning Webbs great grandfather, Claudius Baker Denson. The subseries includes a run of newspapers from the Semi-Monthly Record of the Pittsboro Scientific Academy, of which Denson was headmaster. Printed materials include pamphlets and printed speeches given by Denson. Jordan contains compiled genealogy notes relating to the Jordan Family. Olivia Raney Library series contains clippings, correspondence, ephemera, facilities and financial records, printed materials, resolutions and speeches pertaining to the original Olivia Raney Library, its transition to its second location, and the building of the Olivia Raney Local History Library. Other contains clippings, ephemera, personal notes, printed materials, photographs, and published materials collected by Webb and not discernably connected to a specific family. Some materials are related to general Raleigh history. Raney contains materials and compiled genealogy notes relating to the Raney Family. The Richard Beverly Raney subseries contains clippings, commemorations, correspondence, ephemera, estate records, financial records, ledgers, notebooks, photographs, printed materials, scrapbooks, and writings created by or concerning Richard Beverly Raney. Many of the materials focus on his travels and 1892 trip around the world. Correspondence includes a number of correspondences between Raney and his second wife, Katharine Whiting Denson. Photographs include many taken by Raney. Speed series contains compiled genealogy notes relating to the Speed family, as well as published works by members of the Speed Family. Webb series contains correspondence, collected genealogy notes, financial materials, notes, printed materials, and photographs relating to the Webb Family.
